GTA 6 PS4 Leak and Rumours: What Is Real?

Every few months a new "GTA 6 is secretly coming to PS4" thread goes viral. The pattern is always the same: high curiosity, low confirmation. This page exists so you can read the responsible version instead of a clickbait headline. The short version up top: none of these stories are verified, and none of them change Rockstar's official platform list of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed

Let us go through the recurring claims one by one, label each clearly, and explain why it does not move the verdict.

The 2022 development leak (dev-kit footage)

In 2022, a large amount of early GTA 6 development footage leaked online. Some of that footage reportedly ran on PlayStation development kits, and that detail mutated into "GTA 6 runs on PS4." Leak / rumour

Here is the missing context. Development kits are not retail consoles. Studios build and test games on dev hardware that does not map one-to-one onto what ships to players, and early test builds run in conditions that have nothing to do with the final platform list. Even if some early footage touched older hardware, that says nothing about which consoles get the finished game. The finished game's platforms are decided by Rockstar's official announcement, and that announcement is PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Title-ID and datamine posts

A second genre of rumour points to "title IDs," store database entries or datamined strings supposedly proving a hidden last-gen build. Leak / rumour

Placeholder entries, mislabelled database rows and outright fakes are common, and a screenshot of a code string is not a shipping product. No datamine has produced a real, playable PS4 version of GTA 6, and none overrides Rockstar's stated platform list. Treat every "look at this title ID" post as unverified by default.

"GTA 6 began as a PS4 game"

Because GTA 6 has been in development for years, some argue it must have "started" as a PS4 project and therefore a PS4 version exists or could be finished. Leak / rumour

Long development is real, but "a project began during the PS4 era" is not the same as "a shippable PS4 version exists." Games are routinely re-targeted to newer hardware as development progresses, precisely so the final product is not chained to aging consoles. Whatever GTA 6 looked like early on, the platforms Rockstar is actually shipping are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How to read a GTA 6 rumour safely

A simple filter keeps you out of trouble:

  • Is it on Rockstar's official channels or the official site? If not, it is unverified.
  • Does it confirm a platform, or just hint at one? Hints, leaks and datamines are not confirmations.
  • Does it ask you to spend money on the strength of the rumour? If so, stop.

Anything failing those checks belongs in the "interesting, unverified" pile, not the "fact" pile.

The verdict has not moved

We cover these stories so you do not have to trust a random thread, but the conclusion is unchanged: GTA 6 is not coming to PS4. The only platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, from 19 November 2026.
